As stated in the Call to Caucus, “If the number of candidates pre-filed by the deadline for any office is equal to one, this Caucus may be cancelled and candidates will be declared Nominees.” The deadline for filing with us at 4:00 today, May 17, 2017, having passed, the Nominating Caucus for Bristol Virginia Democrats for the selection of Constitutional Officer nominees that was scheduled for May 18th at 6:30 p.m. has been cancelled.
We are happy to announce the nomination of Cloe Eva Barker for Commissioner of the Revenue, and Joe R. Mink for Sheriff. Our candidates will be on the ballot November 7, 2017, and we encourage Bristol residents to come out and vote for them!

Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee Call to Caucus for Nomination of Candidates for the Constitutional Offices of Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Treasurer, and Commissioner of the Revenue, 2017 General Election
By authority provided in the Democratic Party of Virginia Party Plan, the Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee issues this Call to Caucus in Bristol, VA, for the purpose of nominating candidates for Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Treasurer, and Commissioner of the Revenue, for the November 7, 2017 General Election. The Caucus will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Bristol Virginia Courthouse, 497 Cumberland St., Bristol, VA. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for registration. Doors will close promptly at 7:00 p.m. Persons in line to register at 7:00 p.m. will be admitted for registration, and the Caucus will begin when registrations are completed.
All Democrats registered to vote in Bristol, VA, are invited to participate. The Caucus Participant form must be completed and submitted at the registration desk, where forms will be available, or may be downloaded, completed, and turned in at the Caucus. By registration, each participant declares that they are a Democrat and are registered to vote in Bristol, VA; they believe in the principles of the Democratic Party; and they do not intend to support any candidate opposed to a Democratic nominee in the 2017 General Election.
Persons seeking nomination for an office on the Nov. 7, 2017, ballot must pre-file a Candidate for Nomination form indicating the office for which nomination is requested: Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Treasurer, or Commissioner of the Revenue. Completed Candidate forms must be returned with all information and original signature by 4:00 p.m. May 17, 2017, to Carl Williams, 710 Piedmont Ave., Bristol, VA.

Only those present at the caucus may vote. Nominees will be chosen from those who have pre-filed. Voting shall be by secret ballot. Ties remaining on the first vote will be broken by a second secret ballot vote. In the event that a tie remains to be broken, the Chair will organize a coin toss for two tied candidates or a drawing of straws for more than two tied candidates.
If the number of candidates pre-filed by the deadline for any office is equal to one, this Caucus may be cancelled and candidates will be declared Nominees. All relevant provisions of the State Party Plan as amended and the Bylaws of the Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee are incorporated by reference into this Call to Caucus and made a part hereof. – Edward K.
